Biobased sustainable industrial solutions – or just biosolutions can be a key enabler for a climate and energy transition, for a better environment and more biodiversity and for ensuring sustainably produced food to more people. However, the European legislative environment for the bio-based industry is a patchwork of regulations not fit for bringing biosolutions to market. The “Building the future with nature: boosting Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing in the EU” and the new Commission offers a window of opportunity to change that. With the European Biosolutions Coalition, Danish Industry has taken the initiative to form a Coalition of like-minded, big industry association of which economiesuisse was one of the founding members was a founding member. I will talk about the aims and ambitions of the European Biosolutions Coalition and use Denmark as a case study.

Marit Hvithamar Rystrøm is Leading Senior Adviser, European Biosolutions Coalition/Leading Senior Adviser, Danish Industry. With a background in international business and politics, Marit has been seconded by Danish Industry to lead the concept and business development of establishing the European Biosolutions Coalition, since May 2023. – Collaborates with both companies, organisations, research institutions on biosolutions. Prior, she was seconded to the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to establish and lead the conceptualization of Danish export promotion delegations headed by the royal family in a Public-Private Partnership, and for the execution in cooperation with the Danish Embassies involved. She also has a background from the Danish Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Danish Agricultural Council.
