Enzyme development from an industry perspective

Abstract

Nowadays commonly used, the term „Sustainable Bioeconomy“ is only little more than a decade old. It is not a short-lived hype and even more than a trend: It is basically a term for the necessity to become more efficient in both energy and resources consumption in all fields of supply. The key to both is catalysis as a main driver for more efficient manufacturing processes. Enzymes, being intrinsically „sustainable“, play a critical role in almost all forms of applications in that context. But what looks simple on paper can be quite complex and challenging in practice. This presentation focusses on the challenges of both development and manufacturing of enzymes from an industry point of view.

About the Speaker(s)

speakerDr. Michael Puls is Managing Director of evoxx technologies GmbH, a German Biotech Company specialized in the development of enzymes and enzymatic processes, serving customers world-wide in the field of pharmaceuticals, but also food ingredients, consumer goods and specialty chemicals. Michael has more than 15 years of industry experience and a track record of successful product developments and market launches. He obtained his PhD in enzyme technology in 2007 from University of Duesseldorf, working in Prof. Dr. Karl-Erich Jaeger`s group at Institute of Molecular Enzyme Technology at Juelich Research Center, Germany.
